Not Your Bitcoin Keys – Not Your Coins – What to Do

A couple of months ago, I posted a detailed thread showing you how to self-custody your Bitcoin.  This is important due to (reasonable) declining trust in the exchanges.  At the time, I put up a link on the blog, but for those of you who don’t use Twitter, the attached PDF has all the details … Read more

How Cryptocurrency Managers Evaluate Non-Bitcoin Cryptocurrency

We’ve done multiple calls and written on Bitcoin in the last year, and we’re now getting regular questions about other cryptocurrencies. Is Ethereum “better” than Bitcoin? Are there other cryptocurrencies we should be buying along with or instead of Bitcoin? And how do we distinguish between a quality cryptocurrency with owner-friendly policies and security vs cryptocurrencies with practices that are less secure or advantageous.

To explore this topic, we’ll be hosting experts who actively manage money in the space; Chris Bell and Michael Bucella.

Chris Bell is Managing Director/ National Sales manager of Horizon Kinetics, LLC a NY based asset manager that runs a cryptocurrency fund. He has 35 years in the financial securities business and began his trip down the crypto rabbit hole in late 2015 when he read the Bitcoin white paper. Chris is also a member of the Deep Knowledge Investing Board of Advisors.

Michael Bucella is a Partner at BlockTower Capital. Prior to BlockTower, Michael spent nearly a decade with Goldman Sachs. He joined Goldman Sachs in 2008 as part of the Firm’s Asset Management division (GSAM), where he focused on investment strategies, markets and institutional investors globally. Most recently, Michael worked in the Securities Division where he ran the Multi-Asset Sales & Trading business in Canada and led efforts to expand this strategy globally. Previous to this role, he led the Institutional Global Equities business, also in Canada.
